There is a bird native to the Indian subcontinent that does something most birds cannot.
It talks.
Not in the way a parrot repeats a phrase it has heard a thousand times. The myna — a medium-sized bird from the starling family, native to Iran, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka — mimics human speech with a fluency that catches people off guard. The cadence is right. The tone is right. The words land the way they are supposed to land.
People have kept mynas as companions for centuries precisely because of this. The bird does not just copy sounds. It communicates.
Why we named the platform after it
When AI is done poorly, it feels robotic. Scripted. Like a phone tree that learned to type. Anyone who has been on the receiving end of a bad chatbot knows the feeling — the canned response that misses the point, the “I didn’t understand that” loop, the obvious sense that whatever you are talking to is not really listening.
We named the platform Myna because we wanted to build something different. Not AI that pretends to communicate. AI that actually does.
The myna bird was the right reference point. It is one of the few creatures on earth that can hold a conversation with a human being and make that human forget, even briefly, that they are not talking to another person. That is the standard we set for ourselves.
Exotic but real
There is still something exotic about AI that works. Most people who have encountered AI in a business context have been disappointed by it. The chatbot that could not answer a simple question. The automation that sent the wrong message at the wrong time. The tool that cost more to set up than it ever returned.
Well-built AI — AI that reasons, adapts, and responds like a trained human would — still feels rare. Novel. Like encountering something you did not expect to be as capable as it is.
The myna bird has that quality too. It is native to parts of the world that most people in North America or Europe have never visited. It belongs to ecosystems that feel distant, unfamiliar. And yet when you hear one speak, the distance collapses. It is immediately, surprisingly familiar.
That is what we are building toward. AI that closes the distance between what people expect and what actually happens when they interact with it.
The species
There is no single myna bird. The name covers a group of species within the starling family, each with its own range, appearance, and personality. Here are the ones worth knowing.
Bali Myna (Leucopsar rothschildi)
The Bali myna is the one that inspired our brand colors. It is an almost entirely white bird with a long, elegant crest, black-tipped wings, a golden-yellow beak, and striking blue bare skin around its eyes. It is native to the island of Bali in Indonesia and is the island’s only endemic vertebrate species. It is also critically endangered — fewer than 50 adults are believed to exist in the wild. The Indonesian government designated it as Bali’s faunal emblem in 1991 and featured it on the 200 rupiah coin.
If you have ever looked at Myna’s logo and color palette — the white, the blue, the gold — now you know where it comes from.
Common Myna (Acridotheres tristis)
The one most people have seen, even if they did not know what it was. About 23 to 26 centimeters long with a brown body, bright yellow beak and eye patch, and white wing patches that flash when it flies. Originally from South Asia, it has expanded across Australia, the Middle East, Africa, and the Pacific islands. It is considered one of the most invasive species on earth — not because it is destructive, but because it adapts so well to new environments that it outcompetes native birds. Bold, social, and comfortable around humans.
Hill Myna (Gracula religiosa)
The best talker of the bunch. The hill myna is found across the forested hills of South and Southeast Asia and is widely regarded as the most talented vocal mimic among all bird species — often surpassing parrots in clarity and tone. It has a glossy black body, bright orange-yellow wattles on the sides of its head, and a thick orange beak. This is the species that people have kept as a companion for centuries specifically for its speech.
Jungle Myna (Acridotheres fuscus)
Slightly smaller than the common myna at about 21 to 23 centimeters, with dark gray-brown glossy plumage and a distinctive forehead crest. Found across India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Southeast Asia, typically in rural farmlands and forest clearings. Quieter than its common cousin but no less adaptable.
Bank Myna (Acridotheres ginginianus)
Distinguished by the brick-red bare skin around its eyes instead of the yellow seen on most other mynas. It has a black crown, a grayish body, and a yellow beak. Found mainly across northern South Asia near riverbanks, canals, and irrigation channels where it nests in colonies by burrowing into earthen banks — the only myna species that does this.
Across species, the pattern is the same. Mynas are bold. They adapt. They communicate. They thrive in environments where other birds struggle. They do not wait for conditions to be perfect. They show up and they do well.
It is, by any measure, one of the most successful groups of birds on the planet.

Unlike traditional chatbots that follow rigid scripts, Myna uses an agentic reasoning architecture. It thinks, in the way that AI can think, and responds accordingly.

The name means something
We could have called it anything. A lot of AI companies pick names that sound futuristic — abstract, clinical, designed to signal technology.
We went the other direction. A real creature. A real history. A name that means something before you even know what the product does.
The myna bird has been communicating across language barriers for centuries. We are just building on the idea.
